Researchers in Japan say they plan to use cloning technologies to bring the woolly mammoth back to life in the next five years. Discovery reports the scientists plan to obtain frozen tissue from the remains of a creature — which disappeared from most of the world 10,000 years ago — then put nuclei from its cells into an elephant’s egg cell and implant the embryo into an elephant. The plan faces numerous obstacles, including the relatively low success rate of cloning from frozen tissue.
