Thou-Vou, Over!

By skiour / Posted on 03 May 2011

Thanasis Veggos has passed on.

If you don’t know him, he was the man who single-handedly defeated the Nazis, had a meaningful conversation with Harvey Keitel and the snow, was Greece’s answer to 007 and made the biggest, brightest and loudest displays of love–see video below–for a woman he had just met and fell in love with. All the while, Veggos, eternally bald and infinitely bolder, laughed and laughed and laughed.

In my fantasy movie I have him playing alongside serial killers Juliette Lewis and Woody Harrelson on a mad killer rampage in a run-away bus. The killer-duo picking up Thanasis at a deserted bus stop who through his wisdom, patience and kindness ‘takes the devil out of them’… While I also imagine him as the hyperkinetic, crazier and chubbier twin to the graduate; breaking through the glass, carrying Elaine Robinson in his arms and riding-off on his mini-bike.

In his movies, he cured machines with candy, jumped, run, drove and flew on a trajectory like a comet and burst out as one of his fireworks. His roles were the simple working man– going crazy on occasion. Equal among equals.

Bye, bye Θ.Β., όβερ!
